Vietnamese electric vehicle (EV) giant VinFast is making a robust push into the Indian market, and the recent spotting of its new Limo Green 7-seater electric MPV testing on Indian roads marks a major milestone. Having patented the design earlier this year, this vehicle’s appearance confirms VinFast’s intentions to capture a segment of India’s rapidly growing EV landscape, signaling a strong market entry is imminent.
Design and Road Presence
Despite being heavily camouflaged during its first Indian road test, the VinFast Limo Green maintains design characteristics similar to the model launched in Vietnam. It features a tall and vertical stance that promises great interior space, distinctive vertical tail lamps, a large glasshouse to enhance cabin airiness, and a new alloy wheel design that contributes to its premium MPV style. The overall design language suggests this is a practical, family-friendly, and purpose-built electric MPV ready for the demands of the Indian road network, with a focus on maximizing internal space.
Powertrain and Impressive Range
The Limo Green is positioned to be a highly competent contender in the electric MPV segment thanks to its impressive specifications. It is equipped with a 60.1 kWh battery pack that powers a Front-Wheel-Drive (FWD) setup, delivering a robust 201 bhp of power and 280 Nm of torque. This combination yields an estimated NEDC range of approximately 450 km on a single charge, making it an excellent electric option for long highway journeys as well as city commutes. For added convenience, the vehicle supports fast charging, capable of boosting the battery from 10% to 70% in just 30 minutes.
Premium Interior and Market Competition
Drawing cues from its Vietnam counterpart, the Limo Green’s interior in India is expected to be modern and premium, featuring a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 360-degree camera, leather-like upholstery, a floating center console, and a crucial three-row, 7-seater layout. These features make it equally appealing to large families and commercial fleet operators. Upon its launch, the VinFast Limo Green will enter a competitive field, challenging other electric MPVs such as the BYD eMAX 7 and the Kia Carens Clavis EV.
Local Manufacturing and India Commitment
VinFast’s commitment to India is solidified by the inauguration of its first manufacturing plant outside Vietnam, located in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu. This facility is pivotal to the company’s strategy, designed to support both local production and exports to neighboring regions. The Limo Green MPV is anticipated to be one of the first models to benefit from this local assembly, which is essential for competitive pricing and a strong service network.
